As a professional outdoor educator, the OBS Instructor’s key role is to help our youth draw impactful learning through purposeful outdoor adventure experiences.
Requirements
Passion and experience
Enthusiastic about youth engagement and development
Experience in youth development or participant instruction preferred
Background in sports or outdoor activity
Leadership and adaptability
Strong leadership and adaptability in dynamic environments
Driven team player with initiative
Communication and teaching ability
Effective communicator with teaching ability
Skills to facilitate group reflection and learning
Situational awareness and safety
Great situational and safety awareness for participant well-being
Physical and mental resilience
Adequately fit and mental resilient for extensive outdoor work
OBS Instructor Selection Process (ISP)
OBS Instructors are selected through an immersive 3D2N outdoor selection weekend, where they will experience mentally and physically challenging but rewarding activities to demonstrate their abilities. The ISP is a physically demanding and highly intensive programme. As your safety is our top priority, you may not be able to participate if you have any of the listed conditions:
Cardiac conditions e.g. ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia, congenital heart conditions
Respiratory conditions e.g. exercise-induced asthma
Seizure (with history of episode/medication within last 2 years)
History of anaphylaxis (due to environmental/food allergens)
Any conditions that may cause:
Inability to perform strenuous/physically demanding activities and movements for prolonged periods of time (e.g. carry loads of 15 – 20 kgs for 5 – 6 hours a day);
Inability to see colours or see in the dark/night;
Inability to conduct outdoor activities and independently supervise the safety of minors; and/or
Danger/hazard to self or others in an outdoor/wilderness setting.

Salary and allowance
Ranging from SGD $3,880 - $5,200. Your exact starting salary will vary depending on relevant work experience(s) and time spent on the job, level of academic training received and completion of full-time National Service in Singapore.
In addition, OBS Instructors are eligible to receive the following allowances upon completion of your Basic Instructor Training Programme and meeting the requisite requirements to become an operational instructor:
Field allowance of SGD $200/month
Skills allowance of SGD $150/month
Equipment reimbursement of SGD $150/year

Medical and dental subsidy
As a Singapore Public Service officer, you will receive a subsidy of up to SGD $500 per calendar year for medical expenses. You are also entitled to receive 85% reimbursement of your dental expenses, capped at SGD $120 per calendar year.
